GET YOUR T-SHIRTS AT THE READY FOR CHARITY APPEAL

It might not be T-shirt weather quite yet, but a group of Gloucestershire fundraisers are urging local people to plan ahead, ready for this year’s T Day appeal.
The annual event – which invites schools, businesses and groups across the county, to dress down for the day and raise funds for three local charities – is taking place on Friday 6 May 2011.
From the very beginning of T Day, the focus has always been on helping local charities for disabled children and young people. Today, these are The Spring Centre, The National Star College and The James Hopkins Trust.

In the last 12 years tens of thousands of pounds have been donated to the appeal, thanks to the loyal and generous support of people in Gloucestershire. This makes a huge difference to the charities that benefit, as Jayne Fisher from The Spring Centre explains: “Being a small, independent charity, we have limited resources available for the fundraising that is needed to run the Centre. The money we receive through T Day is vital in helping us to support the 140 children that come through our doors every year.”

Fundraising activities for the T Day appeal are not just confined to the dress down day on 6 May. There are many other ways to get involved, from a simple donation to a tea party, or even a tiddlywinks tournament.
Sports fans and celebrity followers can also participate in an online auction of signed memorabilia, which forms part of the appeal and comes to a close on T Day itself. In recent years the auction has featured highly-desirable items such as rugby balls autographed by the Gloucester Rugby team, football shirts signed by Premiership stars and books annotated by local celebrities.

This year’s initiative has already been boosted by a pledge from Gloucester-based Aegeas to back the appeal, with staff-member, Antony Greensweig also now on the T Day committee. Integrated agency, Target are producing the artwork for this year's promotional leaflet free of charge and Prestbury Marketing & Consulting are sponsoring the printing costs.

Over the next few months, the T Day committee will be working hard to encourage even more children and adults in the area to support T Day by registering themselves, their team or their organisation to participate. Anyone interested in signing up can download an application form at www.tday.co.uk.
